Kayleigh's Cabin

You enter the cabin through a tin-roofed front porch that has buggy wheels instead of the traditional picket posts around the railing. KayLeigh purchased these at an estate auction, making a perfect fit for the porch. Relax in the big red leather chair and wooden rocker, or at the small glass patio table with two chairs right by the branch. KayLeigh's Texas Lone Star hangs proudly on the wall of the porch.

Stepping through the double glass French front doors, you will find yourself in a combined living area and kitchen, with a full bath and closet in the bathroom. Windows have Levelor blinds if you want to close out the world, but can be raised to invite the year-round green of rhododendrons into the rooms.

The living area has a big, comfy overstuffed chair with reading lamp next to the gas fireplace and two built-in bookcases. An old trunk serves as both a coffee table, but is there to put your feet up and enjoy. The entertainment center holds a TV with DirectTv upon request, plus a DVD and a VHS player. Several movies are available in both formats. Dominoes, games and puzzle, plus a small radio with tape & CD player are there for your enjoyment. A small washtub holds magazines, as well as brochures of area sites and events. The sofa is a queen sleeper sofa, bedding included. The phone is available for local calls, but please use a calling card for long distance. All cell phones work here (with the exception of AT&T) and wireless internet access is available for your laptop.

The kitchen includes ample cabinets, refrigerator, stove with self-cleaning oven, auto-start coffee pot plus a smaller 4-cup pot, bean grinder, plus all dishes and cooking utensils. Cloth napkins and a wine cooler add to the comforts of home. For those with little ones, KayLeigh's old high chair sits by the back door. A small desk area allows you to use your laptop or write while looking out the window. A table and four chairs made of actual tree limbs with bark remind you that you are in the woods.

A bookcase with reading material stands by the bathroom door. The bathroom is a tub/shower combination, supplied with large fluffy bath towels and limited toiletry items. The small closet has shelf and hanging space.

From the kitchen you step out onto the large back deck that includes chairs plus two barstools and a large table. A gas grill awaits your use, including the propane. A small charcoal grill is also available. Explore the woods and the creek, or simply sit and enjoy doing nothing.

The large upstairs bedroom and sitting area features a queen-size sleigh bed, bookcase stocked with both books for adults and children, a small writing desk with chair, a dresser, trunk, two rockers and a love seat. Opening the window brings in the sound of the creek and local birds, which are numerous. This large bedroom has the sitting area at one end of the room, with everything you need to settle down with a good book or your laptop. There is also a bedside alarm clock if you can.t leave the world completely behind. The red paper-mache parrot that hangs from the ceiling by the desk was KayLeigh's first estate-sale purchase for her cabin, bought in the fall of 2004.

Every part of this cabin has been slowly built and furnished by us for our own use, so you will find that we are welcoming you to our home. We ask that you treat it as your own, transforming from guest to family as you cross the threshold. In doing so, please leave it as you find it, and advise us of any additional items or amenities you found lacking. Much as we are ourselves, it remains a labor of love, a work in progress.
